“Here I Stand”

High School Valedictorian Erica Goldson posted her incredibly insightful graduation speech on her blog. As someone who works primarily in low-income schools and communities, I often lose sight of the fact that while current trends in education– the relentless pursuit of Data, the impulse to standardize everything, the emphasis of product over process– most adversely impact poor and “minority” students, they’re damaging to ALL students’ intellectual and social development. Thanks, Erica, for a timely reminder.
