Mike the Headless Chicken Goes into a New Profession

April 4, 2011

Mike the Headless Chicken is not a creature of my invention, and it’s probably even more fun, and definitely more twisted, that he’s not.  There really was a chicken named Mike, in Fruita, Colorado,  that managed to survive his own beheading in 1945 and live an additional 18 months before choking on a particle in his headless throat.   I think he’s a perfect spin-off character for a Pandora entry, sort of a Josie and the Pussycats to my not-Archie-comic.  In this episode, Mike has just learned that there is a unique and exciting way to fill the high demand for public defenders in the local court system and he can’t wait to tell Pandora!

Sound silly to you?  We think so too!  Unless you’re engaged in dramatic play, it takes more than a costume change to master a new career. Um, doesn’t it?

You can’t make up this kind of stuff. Both Mike the Headless Chicken and the fact that people are seriously trying to advance an argument that devalues training, expertise, experience, and the education of those in ummmmmmmm education. This excellent cartoon reminded me of a powerful presentation by Michael Brunson of CORE:
