Podcast: Interview with author Jo Scott-Coe

This past Saturday, I had the privilege to speak with Jo Scott-Coe, longtime high school English teacher, current professor, and author of Teacher At Point Blank: Confronting Sexuality, Violence, and Secrets in a Suburban School. The book is an incredibly well-written collection of essays on the often harsh social and institutional realities of modern teaching, in a space that is typically idealized– a high-achieving suburban school.

Our roughly hour-long conversation explored a number of different issues, including sexism, race, and class in schooling; the often overlooked sacrifices teachers make in the course of our work; the artificial nature of schools themselves, and more. (Not your average coffee klatch around here, folks!)

When you have a moment, make yourself a cup of tea (or grab your lunch), settle in, and have a listen 🙂 Podcast: Interview with Jo Scott-Coe
